People

People are at the heart of everything we do and this focus is strongly reflected in our CR approach.

Our priorities include protecting our people's health, safety and security, providing them with a supportive workplace in which diversity and equality are respected and valued and in which they are given the support and opportunities they need to develop to their full potential.

The Company is committed to maintaining positive employee relations throughout its workforce and continues to adhere strictly to employment legislation in each of the countries in which we operate.

We engage with our people to understand their views, and provide them with opportunities to develop their careers at Cairn.

In our Edinburgh head office we have been accredited as Investors in People since 2004. Re-accreditation is due to take place in April 2010.

Our 2009 Highlights:

  • Construction activities on the Mangala Processing Terminal facility and pipeline in Rajasthan employed up to 16,000 workers and required approximately 63 million man-hours.
  • The completion of survey activities and preparations for drilling in 2010 in Greenland without injuries or environmental incidents.
  • Engagement with our staff in our Edinburgh Head Office, and developing the organisation to support the 2010 work programme.
  • Implementing initiatives to address areas requiring attention identified by the 2008 Employee Opinion Survey.
