Our 2010 CR objectives

Cairn (excluding Cairn India)

CR Management System

  • To ensure that they are 'fit for purpose' for ongoing and future activities, undertake an assessment of the Group CR Policies, Guiding Principles, CR Management System (CRMS) and supporting procedures/guidelines.
  • Roll out, raise awareness and provide appropriate training in the updated CRMS.
  • Develop and conduct a gap analysis against the requirements of the CRMS across all operating assets.
  • Conduct an internal audit on the adequacy and effectiveness of the Group CR Policies, Guiding Principles and CRMS, in managing CR challenges in Cairn Group activities.

Behaving responsibly in all our business relationships

  • In light of new developments in preventing bribery and corruption, review the Group Code of Business Ethics and Whistle Blowing Policy and supporting procedures.
  • Assess whether to move to Level B of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Reporting Guidelines in the assurance process for 2010 CR Report..
  • Review changes to the supply chain process aimed at enhancing contractors'/suppliers' compliance with the Group CR Guiding Principles.

Behaving responsibly towards our people

  • Assess feedback from the employee engagement survey conducted in early 2010 and develop/implement an action plan to address findings.
  • Continue to raise awareness of new HR policies issued in late 2009.
  • Progress implementation of the succession plan framework.
  • Utilise CR Intranet to more effectively communicate CR knowledge-sharing to head and asset offices.

Behaving responsibly towards society and communities

  • Roll out the updated Human Rights Handbook and provide training in applying the 'rights aware' approach in our business activities.
  • Implement stakeholder management plans as defined in the asset public consultation and disclosure plans.
  • Develop communication strategies to raise awareness of activities in support of asset work programmes.

Behaving responsibly towards the environment

  • To address the impact of external developments on Cairn's activities, review the Group Climate Change Strategy.
  • Finalise, roll out and provide training in the implementation of Biodiversity Policy and Strategy.

Cairn India

  • To align with internal and external requirements, review, and revise as approriate, the Cairn India CR Guiding Principles and CRMS.
  • Review linked procedures and the CR Gated Process to ensure they meet current business needs.
  • Complete roll-out and training of the revised system and procedures.
  • Audit CRMS compliance across operating assets.
  • Complete the annual integrated HSE & Assurance audit programme.
  • Review participation in the GRI reporting system, through carrying out a gap analysis with GRI Reporting Guidelines for Level C+ / B requirements.
  • Work with contractors to implement the revised Cairn Inida Contractor Management requirements and enforce through contract conditions.
  • Carry out a Baseline Employee Engagement Survey and develop an action plan based on the outcome of the survey.
  • Implement a Succession Planning Framework for all Business-Critical Positions.
  • Build and promote Technical Competency Framework for all functions and levels.
  • Continue to implement the Leadership Development Programme.
  • Promote the use of Cross-Functional Project assignments to focus on organisational priorities.
  • Ensure effective and efficient implementation of CR programmes through better relationships with partner NGOs and government departments.
  • Design CR programmes to meet stakeholder expectations and community needs.
  • Carry out a study to estimate the carbon footprint from Cairn India production activities.
  • Develop the Rajasthan operations Environmental Management System (EMS) to ISO 14001/2004 standard.
