Overview

The aim of this corporate responsibility (CR) report is to represent Cairn Energy’s CR strategy in a clear and transparent way, and to demonstrate to our stakeholders our commitment to managing the potential impacts of our activities.

This report sets out our priorities, objectives and performance during 2009, as we continued to drive towards world-class performance across three main areas of responsibility:

  • our people;
  • the environment; and
  • our communities and suppliers.

It also outlines the robust governance structures, principles and policies we have put in place to manage our CR activities, guide our behaviour and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards and legislation.

We recognise our accountability to a wide range of interested parties and continually seek to understand their interests and expectations and act on their suggestions. We do this through a wide range of stakeholder engagement activities.

Such feedback helps us to report our performance openly and cover those areas that are of concern to our stakeholders, that have a significant impact on the Company and over which we have a reasonable degree of control. These key issues include specific CR challenges associated with our operations in India and Greenland, climate change, occupational health and safety, business ethics, human rights and oil spill prevention.

This report is intended for all of our stakeholders. In addition to this online version, a PDF file containing the full content of the report is also available to download.
